About Glenorchy Library
Located in the picturesque town of Glenorchy at the head of Lake Wakatipu, Glenorchy Library is a
charming and historic community hub in the Queenstown Lakes District.
The original library was part of the Rees Valley School, established in 1891. It housed a collection of over 1,000 books and served as a vital educational resource for the local community. In 1952, the library building was moved into the town of Glenorchy. Today, the main library operates from the community
centre on Islay Street, while the original library building remains as a historic site and a popular spot for photography.
Glenorchy Library offers a range of services typical of small community libraries, including public computers, after-hours returns, and wheelchair access1. It is part of the Queenstown Lakes District Libraries network, providing access to a wide range of resources and community activities.
