About Wānaka Library
Wānaka Library is part of the Queenstown Lakes District Libraries network, offering a comprehensive range of resources and services to its diverse community.
It continues to be a cornerstone of learning, information access, and community engagement in the Wānaka area.
The Wānaka Library opened on Ardmore Street in 1887, reflecting the town's growing population and need for educational resources. The name "Wānaka" is a South Island variant of "wānanga," referring to ancient schools of learning where Kāi Tahu tohuka (men of learning) would be taught whakapapa and karakia.
