About Nightingale Library Memorial

The Nightingale Library Memorial is Nelson’s little library by the sea. Based in a heritage building right next to the Tāhunanui beach and named after Nelson personality Nellie Nightingale whose estate bequest funded the creation of the library, ‘Nellie’, as it is fondly known to some, is a vibrant community space.

It offers a wide range of services, including free Wi-Fi, access to computers, printing and photocopying, and a well-used bookable community meeting room. The library features an extensive collection of books, audiobooks, and digital resources for all ages as well as a library of things that includes book club sets, a VR headset, and sewing machines.

It also hosts various community programmes and events that cater to different interests, from children’s activities to adult learning opportunities. A calm and quiet reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the beach, Nightingale Library Memorial promotes lifelong learning, creativity, and community wellbeing.
