About Kaitāia Library
Kaitāia Library, established in 1882, was one of the first public libraries in New Zealand.
In 2012 the library moved to its current location in the stunning Te Ahu building where a stylised kauri tree takes centre stage in the library space. Facilities here include a café (run by Te Ahu Trust), a council service desk, an iSite visitor information centre and Te Ahu Museum. A cinema and banquet room nearby are also run by Te Ahu Trust.
Kaitāia is the second largest library of the six Far North Libraries.
As the northernmost public library in the country, we welcome both local residents and visitors making a last stop before heading to Cape Reinga.
